Vishnu

Jahaj kothi, Hisar

The identification of this sculpture of Vishnu can be achieved through specific features. Notably, a small diamond-shaped mark known as Srivatsa is located on his chest, which serves as a distinctive identifier independent of other attributes. In this representation, Vishnu is depicted standing on a Padmapeetha. He is adorned with a Vaijantimala, although its upper section is damaged. Vishnu’s attire is showing his royalty, featuring a highly decorative Mekhela around his waist, symbolizing his royal status. Additionally, Mithuna couples are present at both corners, depicted in a Tribhanga posture and richly ornamented. At the base of the sculpture, there may be representations of two small attendants, while the upper left and right corners showcase seated devotees in Padmapeetha, positioned with folded hands (Anjalimudra). Flanking these figures are two animal representations.
