This Hoysala carving of musicians showcases impressive artisanal skill. One must appreciate the floral motifs above the central figures, which are also present in a band on the plinth below. While the plinth is not as elaborately carved, the banded cutting also reflects control and skill. The central figure shows two musicians holding percussion insutruments. The level of detail, however, is unparalleled- from the crowns on their heads to the jewellery and clothing on their torso, the minutest detail is visible in this fairly well-preserved piece, to the point that even the tassels on the drum are visible. This relief is a truly remarkable specimen of Hoysala stone carving.
