Ishana with Female Attendants

Bhima Devi Temple Site Museum, Pinjore

Ishana, a form of Shiva, is one of the eight dikpalas. This sculpture show traces of trisula (trident) and snake visible in upper right and left hand of deity, respectively. An elongated crown (hairlocks), jatamukuta, is visible on deity's head. Deity is seen draped in fine cloth. Ox (vahana) of Ishana is seen near his right feet. Enshrined in a pillared niche, Ishana is seen here with two female attendants on either side of the niche. The attendants seem to hold a flywhisk or a flower in their hand.
