Ishana with Attendants

Bhima Devi Temple Site Museum, Pinjore

Ishana, a form of Shiva, is standing in the central niche in tribhanga mudra. This sculpture shows deity holding a trisula (trident) and snake in upper right and left hand, respectively. Lower left hand is seen holding kamandalu (water vessel). An elongated crown hairlocks, jatamukuta, is visible on deity's head. Ox (vahana) of Ishana is seen near his right feet. Enshrined in a pillared niche, Ishana is seen here with two female attendants on either side of the niche. Deity and attendants show beautiful beaded jewellery and drapery over their body. The figurines portray calm mood on face with half closed eyes. Both attendants hold a flower in one hand towards the central figurine, and other hand portray holding entwined cloth falling towards feet.
