Rissala Collection
This sculpture of a head, carved mostly on three sides, indicates that the larger structure to which this head belonged was not fully freestanding. The same can also be seen in the figure's circular earrings extending far backward. The carving detail on the head is impressive, ranging from the detailing of the hair to the precision of the expression, even including the bindi on her forehead. The calm expression complements the half-open eyes with the slightly raised eyebrows. The circular earrings are also incredibly detailed, along with the elongated earlobes. Upon her head, one finds a Shivalinga-like structure with the yoni, flanked by two bull figurines. Behind the same, one can also find fragments of a snake's torso, linking the sculpture further to the iconography of Shiva.
