Rissala Collection
This celestial globe, made of brass inlaid with silver resting on a fish-shaped tripod with a compass, depicts the heavens from above. Arabic inscriptions are of note, along with engraved human and animal figurines- indicating the origin of the astronomical equipment and technology used to make this. Individual stars are denoted by brass dots, while the engraved figures represent the forty-eight Greco-Roman constellations. The artistic engraving of floral patterns, zodiac signs etc. is of immense significance in this celestial globe. The base is also carved in detail- with motifs interspersed by calligraphic writing.
