Ganesha

Rissala Collection

This six-armed depiction of Ganesha is unique in many ways- the deity is shown standing instead of sitting, and he is depicted with two mice- his vahana- instead of the usual one. While the carving is immaculate- showing great effort and detail in his prabhamandala, jewellery and ayudhas, one also needs to appreciate it further considering the difficulties of working with iron as a medium. The standing Ganesha is shown stood on top of a lotus pedestal, with his vahana Mushaka. In his six hands he is shown holding a noose, an angusam, an axe, a lotus, his broken left tusk, and a modaka. In addition, he is also shown wearing a yajnopavita and a naga around his belly. One also finds a hara, along with armlets, anklets and bracelets on his body. The detailing of his cloth draping to the sides is also noticeable, and worthy of appreciation
