Chanwardharini

Bhima Devi Temple Site Museum, Pinjore

Chanwardharini or the flywhisk bearer is seen in this sculptural fragment, standing in tribhanga mudra between a pillared niche. Flywhisk bearers are usually seen in niches around the deity or in processional ceremony that ward off any sort of pollutant elements in air and simultaneously adds coolness that enhances mood (symbolic) of deity. These are popular sculptural depictions carrying flywhisks made up of various kinds of plant fibre or animal fine hairs.
